Baby Jack is here!

Finally. Finally. After a very long and anxious almost 10 months, our little boy, Jackson Carter Cahill was born on Wednesday, December 5th.  Surprisingly, he weighed in at 8lbs, 7.4 oz and he is 21.75 inches long. He beat out Madelyn's stats by an ounce and almost two full inches. Big Boy! Even one of the nurses asked, "Where have you been keeping him?" because we were all surprised to see how big he was!

The morning of delivery, Adam and I were both pretty calm. Surprisingly so actually as I had figured that it would be a super stressful day. That's not to say that we weren't nervous but I also wasn't the crying emotional mess that that I thought I would be either. Madelyn went off to school and then a few hours later we headed into the hospital for the c-section. Thankfully it got started right on time and there really were no instances of us getting a feeling that anything was wrong. Unlike Timmy's delivery my epidural was in a really good spot and I was able to breathe comfortably for the whole operation. With him, I had a super uneasy feeling of not being able to breath and I had really been dreading going through that again.

As they cut me open and tried to get Jack out, he amazingly even started crying before he was out of me! That was pretty impressive. Glad that his lungs were good and ready because boy did he show them off for us!  Additinally, as they pulled him out, he also started peeing. Haha, just showing off already I guess?  :)  There were extra on hand in the operating room that day including a doctor from the NICU to check Jack out. We'd been contemplating on sending him there to ease all of our worries but honestly it was SUCH a different feeling this time. Both Adam and I could tell that he was okay from the get go. His color was better, he sounded amazing, and he looked really strong. He got a 9 on his Apgar and the doctors all told us that they'd seen him and knew that he was okay to come back to recovery with us, so he did. Below are some of his first pictures on that day.

 Mommy and Jack:
 He is SO alert sometimes!
Last night Madelyn came to visit her little brother for the first time!  She was a littly shy at first but boy did she warm up fast! She kept asking to sit next to him and wanted to give him a "check up" with all of the new doctor equipment that he had given to her as a present. She just loved it.  Below she has on her new doctor coat for our first family picture.
Here is Mads with her doctor's glasses on as well. She cracks me up!
Here is Jack with his new puppy from Mads.
And their first picture together! Once we moved him out of the boppy she kept pointing to it and saying, "Put him back in his pillow! I want to sit next to him."  Fingers crossed that her love for her little brother just continues to grow and grow. I know she's going to be an awesome helper at home!
And a few more of Jack!

It sounds like we'll be staying at least another day or so in the hospital to make sure that Jack's weight at least stays where it is. Additionally they have heard a slight murmer in his heart so we're hoping that it's the transitional kind and will honestly be gone by the time that we leave. But no matter what we are just honestly SO thankful that he's here with us and that he's okay. He has definitely had a special angel, Timmy, looking over him these past few months. We are so lucky.  So happy and thankful for all of my kiddos.

  1. Congratulations on your sweet baby boy! I'd love to hear how your doing after your c-section. I'm not expecting #2 yet but when I am I'm leaning towards a repeat c-section and I like to know how the recovery is.

    Congratulations to your family!
